Normal market condition

People chose them, I was browsing today through fxcm site, looking to discover.
I have noticed a few thing:
-their platform stinks
-that the spread is twice as oanda's
-they are aggressively advertising

Something I find fascinating. They say Fixed Spreads and around the bottom it says Under normal market conditions.

Aren't news normal in forex? We have regular to them. Is not volatility regular in forex? That is what everyone's saying, volatility, volatility... greater opportunities to win.

Who chosed fxcm and why? I'm only curious.
