Thread: Silver down to $0.18 - Megaspike on Alpari!

The Mt4 process isn't capable of spiking a price for a single individual client. When there was a spike it'd have been on the whole server, meaning every account opened on this server could have seen or been effected with the spike. I really doubt that you're the sole client effected through this mistake and I would expect you to be refunded or possess your position asap.

While I don't doubt that some brokers stop search, you will find cases of erroneous price feeds which come in the brokers LPs. All brokers experience off market prices and although most have filters in place these aren't always perfect to avert spikes.

According to Bloomberg, looks like it was market wide (unless you are managing a market maker). .

    3 Attachment(s) Ha. Interesting!

I did save some charts from LiveCharts and Kitco yesterday. None of them did reveal the spike.
However: Alpari gave me a TempCredit on the account, which brings me back into the figure where I had been prior opening the messed up commerce.
BUT: This obviously says Temp Credit. I will wait a bit longer here. However, Temp Credit isn't excellent. If I had open a new position, I could choose the temp charge back and there it is again: Margin call...

Temp credit eliminated, original account amount restored, original position reopened.

One question remains: What if I'd have wanted to close the currently again open position at any given certain price within the last 12 hours, although my position/account was restored...

A broker who's honest would eat the loss and let you get out at the best price between the spike and today, but I doubt you will be able to. Never hurts to try though.

This is the reason you never ever overleverage. You never know what kind of stuff might happen. I was able last night and platform was down a couple of hours. The moment I discovered that they were down, I called the order desk and asked how long it might take. They weren't sure yet, so I got out of my position at a little loss. I'd like to sleep better , so it was totally worth the reduction. This is a technical problem, but you can encounter market issues also. Imagine going long USD/JPY and Abe comes out and states No more QE. You just wiped out your account in the matter of a couple of minutes if your leverage was large enough.

So, just remember anything can happen.

Initially I thought the demo account was canceled since I could not login, but a few days ago I tried again and found that the account was still there. So I recorded a screenshot just now and post it here.
