Thinking is the bullshit philosophy that America has contributed to idea -- nothing else. Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, along with also the priest, Vincent Peale -- these people have filled the mind using this notion of a positive philosophy.
Plus it appeals particularly to mediocre minds.
Dale Carnegie's book, HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE, was sold in amounts just near the Christian Bible. No other publication has been able to reach that fame.
The Christian Bible shouldn't be a competitor in reality, since it is more or less given free, driven by people. But Dale Carnegie's book people are buying; it has not been given to you. And it has created a certain kind of ideology that has given birth to many books of a similar kind. But to me it is nauseating.
... Dale Carnegie began this whole school of positive philosophy, positive thinking: Do not observe the negative part, don't observe the darker aspect. But by your not seeing it, do you think it disappears? You are just befooling yourself. You can't alter reality. The night will be there; you can feel it is daytime for hours, however it is not likely to be mild hours every day by your believing it.
The drawback is as much part of life as the positive. They balance each other.
After Dale Carnegie, the fantastic title in the tradition of this positive thinking is Napoleon Hill. THINK AND GROW RICH is the best contribution to the world -- all crap, although a superbly written book.
Think and grow rich... you don't have to do anything, you only have to think in totally positive terms and wealth will start flowing towards you. That means you have yet to be thinking totally, if they don't come.
These are amazing games in which you can't conquer the man who is proposing the game. He has the key in his hands. Should you succeed by chance he succeeds because his philosophy -- think and grow rich -- has triumphed. You have been thinking and thinking and believing and positively thinking that dollars are showering on you -- these aren't snowflakes but dollars showering on you -- and unexpectedly your uncle dies and leaves you with a big inheritance. Naturally, positive thinking works!
But if you don't succeed... and ninety-nine percent of the time you aren't likely to succeed -- you understand perfectly well that your positive thinking isn't absolutely positive; you know there is doubt.
Once is some time you open your eyes to see if they're dollars or just snowflakes. You again close your eyes, and you see they are just snowflakes and start believing that dollars are showering.
But the doubt is that these really are snowflakes. Whom are you trying to befool? These thoughts are going on:â€That is just nonsense, I should not waste my time, I might be bringing in some dollars; this way I am losing rather than gaining.â€
But Napoleon Hill writes superbly and gives examples of how people have triumphed by positive thinking. And folks can be found by also you -- this world is large enough. For everything you can find a good example.
Why one? -- you can find countless examples if you just look around and try to find them. And all these folks have been doing just that: they find illustrations, and they set the illustrations from exquisite prose. And of course that you want to be rich, so they exploit your own desire, your ambition. They provide you a method that is straightforward -- they don't ask anything of you.
Around Napoleon Hill I recall... he himself was a poor man. That would've been sufficient evidence to disprove his philosophy. He became rich by promoting the book.
But it was not positive believing that has been making him rich -- it was fools across the world that were buying the publication, it was his job, his labour, his campaign. But at the very beginning days, when his book came out, he was able to stand to convince people to purchase the publication.
And it occurred that Henry Ford came in his latest model car and went into the bookshop to find something light to read. And Napoleon Hill did not wish to miss this chance. He travelled forward with his book and he said,â€A fantastic book has just been released -- you will be happy with it. And it isn't only a book, it is a sure method of succeeding.â€
Henry Ford looked at the man and said,â€Are you the author of the book?â€
Napoleon Hill said ,â€Yes, I am the author of the book.†And he could be proud: that is a part of art. And also to make a piece of art from crap is real mastery.
Henry Ford, without touching the publication, just asked one question,â€Have you come in your car or on the bus?â€
Napoleon Hill could not know what he intended. He said,â€Of courseI came on the bus.â€
Henry Ford said,â€Look outside. That's my car that is personal, and I am Henry Ford. You're befooling others; you don't have even a personal car and you write a book called THINK AND GROW RICH! And I've grown rich therefore I don't wish to bother with it. You think and grow rich! -- when you grow rich you return to me personally, and. That will be the evidence. The publication isn't the evidenceâ€
And it is said that Napoleon Hill never could gather up the guts to satisfy this older man, Henry Ford, again, even though he became somewhat richer. But compared to Henry Ford he was a poor man and has been bound to remain a man, always. But Henry Ford's logic was clear.
No. I do not believe in any philosophy of thinking; nor do I believe in the opposite, at the philosophy of thinking -- since both are there. The negative and the positive make one whole. My philosophy is holistic positivist, nor negativist, but holistic, sensible. You find the whole. Poor and good, night and day, life and death, they both are there.
My strategy is to see exactly what is the case.
There is absolutely no requirement to project any philosophy on it.
... You ask meAm I against positive philosophy? Yes, because I am against philosophy that is negative.
I have to be against both since both choose only half the truth, and both attempt to discount the other half.
And remember: a half-truth is a lot more harmful than a whole lie, as the whole lie is going to probably be discovered by you sooner or later. How long can it remain undiscovered by you? A lie, of course, is a lie; it is a palace made from playing cards -- a breeze and the palace disappears.
But the half-truth is harmful. It may never be discovered by you, you might continue to believe it is the truth. So the real problem isn't the whole lie, the real problem is that the pretending to be the complete truth; and that's what these folks do.
The philosophy of positive thinking says:â€Take everything positively. The negative should have no area in your approach, there should be no negative †That is creating a part, the positive part, nearly the whole.
