Thread: Canal + Volume strategy: Surgical inputs in strong trends

  1. #1
Hello community, After 6 months refining a strategy centered on structure and confirmation by volume, I want to share what I call Canal + Volume. This technique seeks to take advantage of impulses within well defined channels in H1 and H4 temporalities, using confirmation by volume (Volatility Volume Indicator or similar).

RULES: Draw a valid channel (minimum 3 touches per side)

I'm testing it in volatile pairs like GBP/JPY and AUD/USD. So far 7 tickets, 6 winners. I don't use any indicator beyond volume and channel. Simple? Yes. Cash? Even more.

This is like reinventing the wheel, channels and volume, what traders used in the '90s, don't you have something more modern, at least a smart indicator, an EA, something?

Not everything has to be AI and robots. Sometimes the classic works. I prefer to understand why I win or lose that I trust something that I dont even know how to calculate its input. This system has logic and structure.

Thanks for sharing! Im applying something similar, but with Donchian channel instead of manual layout. I think the idea of volume is great, too. It provides clarity to filter fake inputs.

A serious question: how do you avoid false breakups? Sometimes the price touches the channel, there is high volume, but then... boom, false signal and SL activated. Do you use any extra protection?

Yes, that's the most delicate thing in the system. I filter with a minimum ATR: if the ATR of the last 5 candles is less than 60% of the channel range, I don't enter. That indicates possible consolidation or false alarm.

I don't know if it convinces me. lt all sounds very nice in theory until you have three operations in a row with SL of 40 pips. I want to see a real backtest with at least 100 operations. Do you have it?

I'm running it on FXBlue with EUR/USD data from January 2023. For now 68 operations with 78% hits and R:R average 1:1.3. It's not miraculous, but consistent.
